Chris Simms: The Patriots screwed up Mac Jones
Chris Simms of Pro Football Talk and NBC Sports joined Felger & Mazz on Friday on Radio Row in Las Vegas. While on, Simms hit on Mac Jones and the Patriots and how he feels about the Patriots handling of Jones.
Are the Patriots to blame?
Felger: Do you blame the Patriots for Mac Jones?
Chris Simms: Yes I do. How could you not? One. I mean, if McDaniels had stayed there, I think McDaniels has got a lot of those same bylaws, guidelines that a Kyle Shanahan believes in. He wants a guy that can process it all. I think it would be a different look for Mac Jones if McDaniels had stayed there. But I mean, I’m not telling you guys anything, the Joe Judge and Matt Patricia offensive coordinator thing is one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen in football history.
Mazz: And one of the dumbest.
Chris Simms: One of the dumbest. And I can’t even believe I’m saying that because I think the guy as the head coach is the smartest coach in history. But between that, maybe lack of talent, some of the offensive line issues, all that, it certainly has hurt Mac.
Felger: Knowing Belichick like you do, your family history with him, are you surprised it fell off as much as it did here with him and him being responsible?
Chris Simms: Yeah, I am. Especially the offensive side of the ball, the vision there, not wanting to bring somebody new in, I don’t know what what it was all about, And then, maybe just not adapting to some things that are essential, in my opinion, on the offensive side of the football right now, whether that’s speed at receiver, speed at certain positions. He’s still a really good game manager, an awesome defensive coach, It just seems like offense is the part that’s kind of slipping by him a little bit.
Mazz: The game is played differently.
Chris Simms: It is played differently. It’s not the old days.
