Tuukka Rask remains out for Bruins Tuesday vs Devils
Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy confirmed to reporters on Monday that goaltender Tuukka Rask will not play Tuesday night against the New Jersey Devils. Rask missed another practice with an upper-body injury suffered last Thursday against the New York Islanders.
Cassidy said the team has yet to decide who will start Tuesday against the Devils between Jaroslav Halak and third-stringer Daniel Vladar. He said it’s likely that Halak and Vladar will man the net on Thursday and Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins, as well. And in his typically frank style on Monday, Cassidy lamented that offense, not goaltending, has been the Bruins’ biggest issue lately.
“Both goalies were very good this weekend, that wasn’t the problem,” Cassidy. “The problem’s at the other end, obviously, finishing plays. So, as Tuukka gets back into practice we’ll determine when his next game will be. My guess is obviously closer to later in the week. But until he’s practicing I don’t know. Tried to speculate before on that, didn’t think there was much going on. But obviously, it was a more serious injury than we first anticipated.
“So, no use going down that road until he’s in a full practice and had a certain amount of work. So I would suspect it’ll be ‘Vladdy’ and Halak this week.”
Cassidy will announce the starter against New Jersey later on Tuesday.
The Bruins and Devils face off starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday night at the partially reopened TD Garden. You can hear the call of the game with Judd Sirott and Bob Beers on 98.5 The Sports Hub, starting with pregame at 6:30.
