Patriots’ season ends at the hands of the Titans in the Wild Card round, 20-13
The New England Patriots’ 2019 season has come to an end after a 20-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Saturday at Gillette Stadium. Tennessee will head to Baltimore next week to play the Ravens in the divisional round after sending the Patriots packing.
Offensively, running back Derrick Henry led the way for the Titans with 182 yards on 34 carries and a touchdown. His one-yard TD run late in the second quarter turned out to be the last time either offense would score.
The Patriots had five possessions in the second half. They punted on the first four, and when they needed a desperation drive from Tom Brady, he threw a pick-six to former teammate Logan Ryan to put the game out of reach.
Contrast the Titans’ success on the goal line with the Patriots’ last possession of the first half. Given three chances to punch it in from the 1- or 2-yard line, the Pats came up short and settled for a field goal. The Titans answered with the Henry touchdown that turned out to be the difference.
