Rob Gronkowski has a simple explanation for catching passes from Tom Brady: ‘Tom needs someone to throw to’

That private workout between Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski? Sounds like Gronk was just helping his ex-teammate out – and the “ex” part may be staying that way.
Gronkowski was in the area of UCLA in the first place because he served as a team captain at the $50K Charity Challenge basketball game that the school hosted. Speaking to TMZ at the event, he indirectly downplayed his private workout with Brady, basically describing it as a favor to the Patriots quarterback as he works out between now and the start of training camp.
“Tom needs someone to throw to so, you know, he calls Mr. Reliable, Robbie G., the one and only!” Gronk exclaims in the above video.
Obviously, Gronk wasn’t going to blurt out that he’s returning, right in the middle of a red carpet interview at a charity event. If he has any intention of coming out of retirement, he’ll probably keep that close to the vest for a while. But clearly, Gronkowski isn’t having trouble staying busy and won’t need football to make a living.
If he does end up reversing his retirement, it’ll be because he can’t help but scratch that NFL itch. But beyond one game of catch with Brady, he hasn’t given a lot of indications that it’s likely at this point.
