Should Mike Vrabel call his former team about a potential trade for Harold Landry?
The Tennessee Titans have given outside linebacker Harold Landry permission to seek a potential trade partner, Adam Schefter reported Wednesday.
Landry, 28, has spent six seasons with the Titans after being drafted in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. However, he missed the entirety of the 2022 season due to a torn ACL.
Landry could be connected to New England, now that his former head coach, Mike Vrabel, is at the helm. He played under Vrabel in Tennessee from 2018-2023. During that time, he had his career-best season in 2021, earning his only career Pro-Bowl nod so far with 12 sacks and 75 total tackles.
The Patriots have some options at outside linebacker in Anfernee Jennings and Jahlani Tavai, but they could still stand to add another piece at that position. Therefore, Landry could be a good fit, and if Vrabel still has a good relationship with him, it could be easier to facilitate a trade.
Landry has decent career numbers: 397 total tackles (251 solo), 50.5 sacks, and two interceptions. But, a trade would not require a big package. Linebackers have recently been moved for middling or lower draft picks, so the Patriots likely wouldn’t have to fork over anything of serious value.
That being said, Landry would come with a $17.5 million salary in 2025. But the Patriots can afford it, since they have nearly $130 million in cap space to work with this off-season.
