Patriots’ latest free agency addition comes on the offensive line
The New England Patriots’ latest free agency signing is another move to bolster the offensive line. As first reported by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Patriots are adding guard Nick Leverett from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The details of Leverett’s contract were not immediately reported.
Leverett, 27, entered the NFL as a UDFA out of Rice in 2020, signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent the last four years in Tampa, appearing in a total of 16 games with 10 starts.

All 10 of Leverett’s starts came in 2022 – nine at left guard and one at center. He allowed 12 pressures without a sack in 513 pass blocking snaps, while only being penalized twice.
Last season, Leverett fell back into more of a reserve role. He appeared in just three games, all on special teams.
Leverett will be the second teammate of Tom Brady’s from his time in Tampa to join the Patriots. He joins running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn, who the Patriots signed last last year.
In New England, Leverett adds some much needed experienced guard depth to the roster. According to MassLive, starting left guard Cole Strange won’t be ready for the start of the offseason program as he recovers from a knee injury. The right guard spot appears to be up for grabs heading into spring practices.
Leverett joins Strange, Jake Andrews, Atonio Mafi, Sidy Sow, and Michael Jordan as guards on the Patriots’ roster. It’s still too early to know where recently re-signed Mike Onwenu will play, but early indications are he’ll be back at tackle.
