Toucher & Rich: Dan Lifshatz learns the consequences when “keeping it real” goes wrong
Fred and Rich of Toucher & Rich found themselves engaged in an apparent drama surrounding their frequent guest and member of the “Bankroll Bunch”, Dan Lifshatz, renowned for his expertise in sports betting and gambling. The conversation took an unexpected twist as they addressed Dan’s recent on-air frustration during his betting show on Saturday morning.
Fred and Rich shared their love for Dan and his unique personality, strong opinions, and unwavering self-confidence, especially concerning sports gambling. They emphasized that Dan’s appearances on the show have always brought a high level of entertainment, and they always appreciate his willingness to share his insights.
However, the conversation also delved into the perception of arrogance that occasionally accompanies Dan’s extensive sports knowledge. Fred and Rich mentioned that they’ve poked fun at Dan’s confidence in the past, acknowledging their own limitations in terms of sports expertise. They argued that their radio success is grounded in authenticity, where they share personal anecdotes and establish connections with their audience.
Here’s the full quote from Dan Lifshatz on Saturday:
“Fred could not get off the fact that I thought Grayson Allen was a valuable piece. He hates me. Yeah. I don’t care if Fred hates me. It’s OK. I’m totally OK with it. I like Fred. I think Fred’s entertaining. I understand its concept, but I think. I think Fred hates me.
“He at least thinks I’m a know-it-all all. OK, I can very much understand that part. But what I don’t understand is the thing that I said about Toucher and Rich. I’m just gonna be honest with you. Toucher and Rich are the guys who know the least about sports on the station. They’re morning guys and they do sports but if you’re saying who’s the top sports guy, it wouldn’t be me, but it wouldn’t be them either.
“I love Fred, but how can you say that? Like, I spend all day, you know, outside of my job, like researching, doing this stuff because I bet on it. I bet edges. I’m heavily invested in this type of world. And, you know, I’m more and more so than I’d say a good majority of people.
“So when there’s reporting out there that Miami had offered significantly more than what the one report from Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald said, everyone just ran with the Barry Jackson report, that they offered two firsts and Herro and all this crap. There are multiple reports from multiple people out there.
“Then after the show, Shams comes out and confirms exactly what I said, exactly what I said! And by the way, Chris Haynes goes on to say that they could have gotten three firsts for Tyler Herro, which is exactly what I said. You could get a lot more for Tyler Herro than you can for Jrue Holiday, which also gave me a hard time about the J-Rue thing.
“They used to call him J-Rue in college. It was a joke. J-Rue, because he was so dominant they changed his name. It was a joke. So I also didn’t think that was his name. That’s what they called him in college. It’s a joke. That’s why he did it. Whatever, man.
“I was just frustrated Thursday morning because I just got a ton of flak for stuff that I thought was ridiculous.”
