Forsberg: Kristaps Porzingis is key to beating Heat in playoffs
On Friday’s Toucher & Hardy radio program, Celtics insider Chris Forsberg joined the show to give his prospective on a potential future Celtics vs. Miami Heat playoff rematch naming Kristaps Porzingis as a key factor.
Is Kristaps Porzingis the Key to Beating Heat?
Parts of conversation abbreviated for clarity.
Hardy: When it comes to matching up against the Miami Heat, how much does Kristaps Porzingis help the Celtics? I know how he helps them win games in the regular season. But, specifically the addition of Porzingis to the Celtics does what for them in a seven-game series against the Heat?
Chris Forsberg: Yeah, it just gives you another option. What did we lament all of last year when shots weren’t falling? Games got a little more grittier when trying to score against the Heat. It’s tough right?
Spoelstra and Miami will do all the funky things and play zones. That’s the type of stuff that just takes you out of your normal rhythm. It’s a lot easier to break some of the scoring lulls when you can dump it into the seven-foot-three guy and let him do his thing.
And it’s it’s it’s unique, too, because Miami has really good defense. Bam Adebayo is one of the best defenders in the NBA. He’ll be on the all-defensive team this year and in the Defensive Player of the Year balloting.
But I feel like the addition of Kristaps is what unlocks the Celtics against the Heat. And it just gives you that extra option. The Heat has got to put so much attention on Porzingis. That is going to free up guys on the perimeter.
The one thing that you really feel good about that series is when you start looking at the matchups. Miami can’t hide Duncan Robinson and other various players on that side. The Celtics should feel pretty good about exploiting that.
What sets the Celtics apart so far this season is that they there’s no exploitable matchup for them. Other teams have a problem targeting weaknesses. I don’t know how exactly Miami would score points against the Celtics in a future series.
Then again last year, I didn’t think Miami’s offense was good either. But, you know, they found a way to win that series last year. But we don’t need to revisit that.
