Patriots host five players at free agent workout
The Patriots hosted five free agents on Thursday for workouts. It’s the second time this week the Patriots have brought in a group of players for a closer look.
Quarterback Jordan Ta’amu, tight end Dylan Cozens, linebackers Chris Orr and John Lako, and cornerback Dominique Martin were all in Foxborough on Thursday. The visits were first reported by The Patriots had TE Dylan Cozens (former Phillies outfielder hoping to make switch to football), LB John Lako (Akron), DB Dominique Martin (Tarleton State), LB Chris Orr (Wisconsin) and QB Jordan Ta'amu (Mississippi) in for free-agent workouts.
Ta’amu entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Houston Texans in 2019. He’s also spent time with the Chiefs and Lions, but has never played in an NFL game. He did star in the XFL last spring, making five starts for the St. Louis Battlehawks before the league was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cozens is a former MLB player, who retired from baseball last month after spending nine seasons playing pro baseball, mostly in the minor leagues. Drafted by the Phillies out of high school, he never played college football but did at one point commit to the University of Arizona as a defensive end. Cozens, who last measured in as 6-foot-6, 245 pounds, was listed as a tight end on the transaction wire.
Orr is in his second NFL season, and spent last year with the Carolina Panthers after being signed as a UDFA out of Wisconsin. He played in three games last year, totaling six defensive snaps and 50 special teams snaps.
Lako had 138 tackles in 12 games as a senior for the Akron Zips in 2019. He went undrafted last spring and hasn’t yet been on an NFL roster.
Martin is a wide receiver-turned-cornerback from Tarleton State. He graduated in 2016, and has since played for startup leagues including the The Spring League and Fan Controlled Football.
