JuJu Smith-Schuster highlights Patriots’ Saturday transactions
The New England Patriots made a series of roster moves on Saturday, ahead of their Week 17 matchup with the Buffalo Bills. Those moves were highlighted by the team placing wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster on IR.
Smith-Schuster has been dealing with a knee injury. That injury had held him out of the previous two games, and the team had already ruled him out for Friday.

With just two games left in the season, Smith-Schuster is now officially done for the year. In his first season in New England he ended up playing in 11 games, catching 29 of his 47 targets for 260 yards and a touchdown. The Patriots signed Smith-Schuster to a three-year, $33 million contract in free agency this past offseason.
To take Smith-Schuster’s spot on the roster the Patriots signed safety Joshuah Bledsoe off the practice squad. Bledsoe was a sixth-round pick by the Patriots in 2021. He played in three games last season, and has spent all of 2023 on the practice squad.
Smith-Schuster won’t be the only Patriots receiver missing this game. The team also ruled out Kayson Boutte with an illness. Along with Boutte, safety Jabrill Peppers was ruled out on Saturday as well. He’s dealing with a hamstring injury and will miss his second game in a row.
Finally, the Patriots elevated two players from the practice squad. Tight end Matt Sokol is being elevated for the second week in a row, while Andrew Stueber is being elevated for the first time this season, and could make his NFL debut on Sunday.
