Celtics will increase capacity for home playoff games
With their first home games of the playoffs coming up, and Massachusetts set to lift its COVID restrictions, the Celtics have announced they will allow more fans to attend upcoming games at TD Garden.
According to the team, the ‘increased capacity’ will begin for Game 3 against the Brooklyn Nets. That game is scheduled to take place on Friday May 28, a day before the state officially reopens.
Game 4, which will be on Sunday, will have “near full capacity” according to a statement by the team. If the Celtics can win at least two games, they’d also host Game 6 on Thursday June 3, although no information was given about that game specifically.
Earlier this week, Danny Ainge told 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher & Rich that the Celtics have been discussing ways to get as many fans in attendance as possible. However, they would need league approval for a full capacity crowd, something that no NBA team has had since last year’s shutdown.
Before the large crowds return to TD Garden, the Celtics and Nets will start their series in Brooklyn. Game 1 begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday, with pregame coverage starting at 7:30 on 98.5 The Sports Hub.
