Fred Toucher Sees ‘Hope’ in Drake Maye’s First Start as Patriots QB
In this morning’s Toucher & Hardy show, Fred Toucher, Hardy, and Wallach shared their reactions to Drake Maye’s NFL debut in the Patriots’ 41-21 loss to the Texans. Despite the loss, they were optimistic about Maye’s performance. Fred jokingly said Maye looked better than Aaron Rodgers “at least half the time,” and Wallach noted there was hope for the first time this season. Hardy highlighted that Maye “looks like a quarterback” and performed more like a starting QB in one game than Jacoby Brissett did earlier in the season.
Fred and Wallach pointed out that while Maye made rookie mistakes, like throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble, he showed clear talent and potential. Fred attributed the loss more to the Patriots’ defense and special teams, which have struggled despite being seen as team strengths. Wallach stressed the importance of protecting Maye, given some tough hits he took, and that his development should be the team’s top priority this season.
