With four preseason games in the books and the majority of his NHLers on their way back from China, Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney trimmed his training camp roster by 12 on Wednesday.
Beginning at the top, the Bruins have released German forward Marcel Noebels and veteran defenseman Mark Fayne from their professional tryout agreements with the club.
A summertime import after shining for Germany during their improbable run to the Gold medal game at the 2018 Olympics, Noebels played in just one game for the Bruins, with two shots and three takeaways in 12:29 of action. The 31-year-old Fayne, meanwhile, came to the Bruins after spending two straight seasons in the minors. A Nashua, N.H. native, Fayne also skated in just one game, with two shots and two hits in 16:13 of action this past Sunday.
Both Cedric Pare and Daniel Bukac were assigned to their junior teams. Pare won six of his eight faceoffs in 8:05 of action Tuesday night, while Bukac did not get into a preseason tilt this fall. Goaltender Kyle Keyser, who served as Daniel Vladar’s backup Tuesday, was also assigned to his junior squad, the Oshawa Generals of the OHL.
Sweeney also assigned first-year pro defenseman Wiley Sherman to the Providence Bruins. Austin Fyten, Olivier Galipeau, Brett McKenzie, Joel Messner, Tanner Pond, Alex Sakellaropoulos will report to Providence, as well.
The moves leave the Bruins with 30 forwards, 15 defensemen, and four goaltenders remaining in camp.
