Report: Patriots linebacker could miss time due to knee injury
The injury hits keep coming for the Patriots. Last week, they featured 16 players on their injury report, then suffered a handful of injuries in the game itself. Earlier on Monday, it was reported that cornerback Jonathan Jones will undergo season ending shoulder surgery.
Now, the Patriots could take a hit to both their linebacker depth and special teams. According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Harvey Langi suffered a sprained MCL during Sunday’s win. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added that Langi underwent testing on Monday to determine exactly how much time he will miss.
In seven games this season, Langi has played 53 percent of the Patriots’ special teams snaps, as well as filling in on defense. He started on Sunday in place on Dont’a Hightower, who is currently dealing with elbow and ankle injuries.
Langi’s absence could open up opportunities for linebacker Jahlani Tavai on both defense and special teams. Tavai, who was added to the practice squad after final roster cuts, was promoted to the active roster two weeks ago. He played a season-high 22 snaps against the Jets.
Looking elsewhere for linebacker depth, Terez Hall could fill a depth middle linebacker role. He’s currently on PUP and became eligible to return last week.
