Highlights: Bruins give up four unanswered goals in 5-3 loss to Red Wings
The Boston Bruins jumped to an early 2-0 lead, only to allow four unanswered goals en route to a 5-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night at Little Caesars Arena. Boston took the loss despite out-shooting Detroit 50-29 in the game, as the team felt the loss of offensive firepower in the absence of David Pastrnak.
On the bright side, Erik Haula’s hot streak continued, as the Bruins’ current second-line center netted his 13th goal of the season to open the scoring. Haula is up to five goals and 11 points in his last eight games. Brandon Carlo scored a shorthanded goal later in the period with a shot from the high slot.
Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin scored his 30th goal with only 40 seconds left in the first period. Detroit carried that momentum into the second, when Michael Rasmussen and Filip Zadina scored to put their team ahead. Jakub Vrana scored what would turn out to be the game-winner on the power play in the third period. It was a stoppable shot for Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman, who allowed four goals on 28 shots (.857 save percentage).
Patrice Bergeron potted his 19th goal of the season with just 2:46 left in regulation to make it interesting, but an empty-netter for Sam Gagner sealed the victory for the Red Wings. The teams descended into a brawl well after the end of regulation, seemingly sparked by a heated exchange between Carlo and Zadina.
Bruins defenseman Hampus Lindholm exited the game with what the team UPDATE: Hampus Lindholm (lower-body) will not return to tonight's game.
