Patriots unlikely to trade first-round pick in rebuild, says Andrew Callahan
On the Toucher & Hardy radio program, Andrew Callahan from the Boston Herald addressed several key issues concerning the New England Patriots. Fred Toucher asked if the 49ers were serious about acquiring a Patriots player, but Callahan dismissed the idea that the Patriots would trade a first-round pick next year, especially considering their current rebuilding phase.

Callahan also touched on the contract situation with Judon. The Patriots and Judon are in a bit of a holding pattern. Judon, being an edge rusher over 30, wants to be paid like one of the best players in the league. While the Patriots value him, they are cautious about a long-term commitment. Despite the current tension, Callahan believes they will eventually find a middle ground.
Wallach brought up the strategy of acquiring a top wide receiver while a quarterback is on a rookie contract. Callahan agreed, noting that it’s tough to find a #1 receiver since top talents are usually retained and paid well by their teams. He suggested that the Patriots might either draft a receiver or trade for one in the future, aligning with their timeline for developing quarterback Drake Maye. The discussion highlighted the Patriots’ need to balance immediate needs with their long-term rebuilding goals.
