Mike Reiss: Patriots should “listen to everything” leading up to NFL trade deadline
If Mike Reiss was running the New England Patriots, he’d listen to everything other teams are offering leading up to the NFL trade deadline.
As the NFL trade deadline approaches, football fans and analysts are eagerly discussing potential moves that could reshape the league. For New England Patriots fans, the trade deadline has become an intriguing topic for the future of the team. Mike Reiss, the NFL Nation reporter covering the Patriots for ESPN, recently shared his insights on this morning’s Toucher & Rich and was asked for his thoughts on what the Patriots should do.
Fred Toucher asked Reiss about the Patriots’ attitude leading up to the trade deadline. Reese emphasized the importance of keeping an open mind and being receptive to offers. While trade discussions are a hot topic, Reiss pointed out that history has shown that significant trades are rare occurrences.
“I think you listen to everything and see if there’s an offer that comes your way that’s worth considering. But I think that if we look at the history of the trade deadline, those offers are generally pretty few and far between.”
Rich brought up the idea of trading Mac Jones. Mike Reiss agreed that they should consider offers for Jones, but this doesn’t mean they want to trade him.

“If you’re the Patriots, you’re not just going to give players away for the sake of giving them away. Like you got to get something significant in return. Because even though the season isn’t going the way that they wanted, anyone thought it would go like you still got to build for the future.”
Reiss shared his skepticism about the likelihood of major trades occurring. The Patriots currently hold a 2-6 record, a far cry from their expectations. Nevertheless, Reiss suggested that the team should not give away valuable players without receiving substantial returns. For New England, building for the future remains a priority, even in a challenging season.
