Red Sox release revised Spring Training schedule

Earlier this week, the Grapefruit League (Florida’s spring training league) adjusted its formatting for 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. On Friday, the Red Sox released their updated Spring Training schedule, taking the new protocols into account.
In a normal year, the Red Sox would play a balanced schedule against the 14 other teams in the Grapefruit League. This year, the league is split into ‘pods,’ separating the teams between the east and west coast of Florida.
The Red Sox ended up limiting their schedule within the pod, and will play 25 of their 29 games against just three teams – the Twins, Braves, and Rays. They’ll also play the Orioles and Pirates two times each.

February 28 will mark the beginning of the schedule with a matchup against the Twins. The ‘home opener’ at JetBlue Park is scheduled for the next day, against the Braves. There are only two scheduled days off during Spring Training, and the team will have just one day off at the end to travel back to Boston for the season opener against the Orioles on April 1.
The majority of the games will come during the day, with 1:05 p.m. start times. Two late March games, against the Orioles and Twins on the 24th and 25th, will start at 6:05.
Pitchers and catchers are currently scheduled to report to Fort Myers on February 18, with the first full team workout set for February 21.
