Patriots get biggest rookie signing done, leaving three deals to go
On Tuesday afternoon the New England Patriots and third overall pick Drake Maye officially agreed to terms on his rookie contract.
Quarterback Drake Maye officially became a New England Patriot when the team drafted him third overall in the 2024 NFL Draft a little less than a month ago. On Tuesday, Maye’s standing with the team became ‘officially official.’
Heading into the second week of OTAs, the Patriots and Maye agreed to terms on his rookie contract. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo was the first to report the deal on Tuesday.
Maye’s rookie contract, like all rookie contracts in the NFL, is mostly pre-determined. OverTheCap.com projects his new deal to be worth $36 million over four years, with a cap hit of $6.6 million in 2024.
As a first-round pick, Maye’s contract also includes a fifth-year option. The decision to accept or decline that option will be made by the Patriots after Maye’s third NFL season. The value of that option will be determined by certain bench marks Maye hits or doesn’t hit over those three years.
With Maye putting pen to paper, the Patriots have now officially signed five of their eight draft picks. Wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk and offensive linemen Caedan Wallace and Layden Robinson are the three still yet to sign their deals. Players who haven’t signed their rookie contracts can still participate in offseason practices, and some take into July to get their deals done.
