Fred Toucher on Don Sweeney press conference: “What the hell is he doing?!”
During this morning’s Toucher & Hardy radio program, Fred really went after Bruins GM Don Sweeney for his press conference the day before. Sweeney talked about Brad Marchand’s status, the team’s performance, and the controversial officiating. Fred was frustrated, saying Sweeney seemed more worried about avoiding fines than supporting the team and fans. He thought Sweeney’s focus on not criticizing officials was off-base, given the widespread belief that the team got a raw deal. Fred also didn’t like Sweeney blaming the media, feeling it was like blaming the fans indirectly. Overall, it was a conversation full of disappointment and disbelief at how Sweeney handled things.

Fred Toucher’s frustration with the focus on avoiding fines over addressing coaching issues and team performance was evident when he said, “I would be over the moon if my team lost and there was an excuse. Now, I’d rather win. But in terms of the media, if I’m focused entirely on the narrative nationally in all of North America, it’s that you got hosed in that game by the officials and there is a precedent of coaches engaging with officials.” This statement underscores his belief in the significance of media narratives and their influence on public perception, highlighting the need for transparency and open discussion of these issues.
