Armpits of America: Indiana Man Arrested for Driving Impaired in Power Wheels Jeep
An odd incident unfolded in Vincennes, Indiana, as a 51-year-old man, identified as John McKee, was arrested for allegedly driving a Power Wheels Jeep while impaired. The case occurred on a Wednesday night and raised eyebrows in the community.
Indiana State Police reported that a trooper patrolling a street in Knox County spotted McKee behind the wheel of a Power Wheels Jeep. What made this sighting particularly alarming was the fact that the miniature vehicle had no lights or reflectors, making McKee almost invisible on the road.
The trooper promptly pulled him over and observed what appeared to be signs of impairment. Field sobriety tests administered on the scene further confirmed the trooper’s suspicions. Subsequently, McKee was taken to a local hospital, where tests confirmed his intoxication with methamphetamine and marijuana.
This arrest carried significant consequences for McKee, as he was charged with a felony for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) with a prior conviction. According to the Indiana State Police, this wasn’t his first run-in with the law for impaired driving.
Mattel’s Power Wheels Jeeps, designed as battery-powered, ride-on vehicles for children, are not intended for adult use. An owner’s manual for one of these toys specifies a weight capacity of 130 pounds and explicitly warns against using them at night or on roads shared with regular vehicles.
