Christopher Price: Brissett Shines, But Drake Maye Shows Resilience Despite Rookie Struggles
On this morning’s Toucher & Hardy radio program, Christopher Price from the Boston Globe shared his insights on the Patriots’ quarterback situation at training camp. He noted that Jacoby Brissett has been the clear standout in the first six practices, showing consistent and strong performance. Rookie Drake Maye, on the other hand, has had some ups and downs, particularly struggling in the last two practices. Despite these challenges, Price praised Maye’s resilience and ability to bounce back after mistakes. He emphasized the importance of Maye stringing together more consistent practices. Overall, Price believes the Patriots are in good hands with Brissett and won’t lose games because of their quarterback play this year.

Fred Toucher: Christopher Price. It’s a pleasure, Sir. As always. Thank you.
Christopher Price: My pleasure, my friend. How are you doing this morning?
Fred Toucher: We are doing well. It’s always great to talk to you. The story and the interest is Drake Maye, and just how he’s looking. You know, you’ve got Jacoby Brissett, you’ve got Drake Maye. Give me your opinion.
Christopher Price: Well, if they didn’t have Jacoby Brissett here, I think this team would be in a little bit of trouble, at least to start the year. Brissett has been easily the best quarterback in camp for the first six practices. There’s absolutely no doubt about that. Maye has dipped a bit in the last two practices. One of the things I will say about him is his ability to bounce back after struggles. He’d throw a pick, then come back and throw four nice completions. You start to see him begin to stack success, as they say. He’s got to start stringing some good practices together, some good two-hour practices, as opposed to just a really nice throw to Jaylen Polk or Javon Baker here and there. He has struggled at times, especially over the last two practices. He’s a work in progress. He’s a rookie. And again, they have Brissett here, and the important thing to remember about this quarterback group is that they are not going to lose games because of their quarterback this year. They may not necessarily win them, but they’re not going to lose games because of the quarterback play like they have at times over the last two years.
