Patriots player dubs Drake Maye ‘QB1’
On Tuesday’s Zolak & Bertrand program, the guys react to a clip of Kendrick Bourne imitating Drake Maye as “QB1.”
Pats Players Dub Drake Maye “QB1”
Parts of conversation abbreviated for clarity.
Bertrand: Kendrick Bourne is singing a different tune. This video hit online yesterday. It’s him at a summer camp throwing passes and acting like he’s QB1.
There it is. It’s quick. But he’s, like, pretending to be Drake Maye. He’s acting like he’s throwing a pass as Drake Maye. QB1.
He’s doing what kids do in the backyard and pretending to be their favorite quarterback. He says, “I’m going to pretend to be QB1. Drake Maye.”
Zolak: I would classify him as your leader in the group.
Bertrand: Well, it sucks for Bailey Zappe. He lost that QB1 status real quick. Yeah, three months later, no longer QB1.
Zolak: Kendrick Bourne’s been there long, and he’s the elder statesman in the room.
McKone: Also, if you’re Jacoby Brissett, you’re like, dude. Come on, man, this is two straight clips. Give me a break. I’m the starter in Week 1.
Bertrand: Jacoby Brissett hasn’t been named the starting quarterback yet. But he probably will be QB1 for Week 1. Brissett is like, “These children. What am I going to do with all of you.”
Zolak: Someone asked Jerod Mayo at one point, “Who’s going to be the guy that Drake Maye will throw touchdowns to?”
He goes, “Well, we got a lot of good guys. We’ve got Kendrick Bourne and JuJu Smith-Schuster, and we got a good rookie. Oh, and the quarterback throwing those passes could be Jacoby Brissett.”
He catches himself. People are excited about the next future franchise quarterback, and I get it. But Brissett will have to work through it. But I think he gets it, he understands it.
