A hope for Patriots fans
The Patriots are playing out the string at 3-11 after their 30-17 loss to Arizona. The defense once again gave up over 100 yards rushing, and couldn’t stop a nose bleed in the second half. The offense put up some garbage time points but came out conservative with nothing to play for. It was evident post game their are problems with play calling; but we maybe have seen something during the game that has given me hope. And it’s all I can hold on to at the moment.
Hope can be a dangerous thing, once quoted on the movie Shawshank redemption. But with the Patriots, there isn’t much to be hopeful for. But the broadcast showed Robert & Jonathan Kraft watching the game together. The elder Kraft reportedly said that Jerod Mayo had been issued he will be back next season. The Boston Sports Journal reported that the team has been making calls around the league. I love a good source way, but watching Jonathan visibly upset about the performance and with a notepad showed me that he may be the hope Patriots fans could be looking for. Robert was the one who hired Mayo, maybe his son can make a case to love on to save the organization of another year of disappointment.
I have always thought Jonathan was the reason the Patriots have struggled. I thought his involvement in the removal of Bill Belichick was the driving force behind it. There may be hope he can talk his father out of another year of Mayo and find the solution to build around Drake Maye. As I told you, hope can be a dangerous thing. It can drive a man insane. Maybe I’m going insane, but I felt something watching Jonathan’s reaction. Maybe he is truly the anti-hero.
The Patriots have 3 games remaining against playoff teams. Buffalo has scored 30 or more points in 8 straight game. Jim Harbaugh and company have something to play for. Mayo needs to do something to show he deserves another year with more support & talent. I don’t think he will have that opportunity losing 7 games in a row to finish the season.
