Felger: Jim Montgomery pushed another button and it went wrong again
The Boston Bruins once again got shutout early in the 2024-25 season and their penalty struggles to start the season have continued. On Wednesday’s Felger and Mazz, Felger talked about how head coach Jim Montgomery pushed another button to try and get the team going and he failed again.
Felger: Once again it’s another button that Montgomery pushed that went in the wrong direction. It’s happened all season long. He pushes Brad Marchand in the third period in Utah, they give up a game tying goal and lose in overtime. He shuffles his lineup, just like puts them into a blender, they go to Carolina and they lose 8-2. He benches David Pastrnak in the third period of the last game, they get smoked in the third period and then head in to their next game and get shutout over three periods and are once again a dead-ass team and David Pastrnak is taking offensive zone penalties and they’re giving up power play goals all game long. And it’s like, whatever button Montgomery pushes goes in the other direction. And now here we are, back to where we started from, which is how does he still have a job? I heard Beetle talking about this earlier, I think he’s right, this is a perfect day for the Bruins to fire a coach. Lot of other news going on today. You got the election. You got Steve Kerr in town. You’ve got Celtics vs Warriors. That’s sort of like the lead sports story here in town. This is a great day to bury a coach firing.
Felger: So I half expect it today. I half expected it last Friday. I don’t know what they’re waiting for and that’s not to tell you that it solves all the teams problems, but if they want to save their season, if they want to start to salvage their season, they got to give that team a jolt. And it starts with the coach and probably some roster players is where I would go next, but here we are, we’re back where we started from with the Bruins. Where we’ve been for the last week and a half, same spot I’ve been since I saw him give Marchand a shove in the bench there and in Utah.
