Jayson Tatum recognized after dominant first month of 2024-2025 season
Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for October/November.
Coming off of his NBA Finals win, eventful trip to the Olympics, and NBA 2K cover spot, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum isn’t showing any kind of wear and tear from his eventful offseason as the 2024-2025 NBA season gets underway. If anything, he’s done the opposite.
Tatum has been on a tear over the Celtics’ first 21 games of the season. In fact, that level of play is coming with some league recognition.
On Tuesday the NBA announced Tatum as the NBA Player of the Month for October/November (the NBA combines the first Player of the Month award of the season due to the limited games in October). In his start to the season, Tatum averaged 28.7 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game. He was the only Eastern Conference player to average at least 28 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and one steal per game for the month.
This is Tatum’s fifth career Player of the Month award, which is the second-most in Celtics history behind Larry Bird (who won seven). It’s also the third year in a row he’s won Player of the Month for the first month of the season – something no other player has ever done.
Could he make it back-to-back months as well? The Celtics have already played two games in December with a back-to-back to start the month. Tatum scored 33 points and grabbed eight rebounds Sunday against the Cavaliers, then had an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double Tuesday night against the Heat.
Next up for Tatum and the Celtics is a home game against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night. Coverage of that game can be heard starting at 7:00 on 105.7 WROR and the Celtics Radio Network.
