New faces and rising stars: Why Patriots fans should be excited for training camp
On this morning’s Toucher & Hardy radio program, Mike Dussault from Patriots.com discussed why fans should be excited for Patriots training camp. He acknowledged that the camp might not have the same star power as in past years, with legends like Tom Brady and Randy Moss no longer on the field. However, he emphasized that there are still reasons to be enthusiastic. Dussault highlighted intriguing aspects such as the return of key players like Christian Gonzalez and Matthew Judon, and the potential of new talents like Drake May, who has shown promise. Overall, he believes there’s plenty of excitement in watching these new and developing players.

Rob “Hardy” Poole: Your colleague Paul Perillo was on this station yesterday and confirmed an allegation about a perceived lack of energy from the attendees on day one of camp. What was the vibe down there?
Mike Dussault: I mean, look, the field isn’t filled with Hall of Famers anymore. It wasn’t the overwhelmingly large crowd that you might have seen a few years ago. This is kind of how things have been the last couple of years. It’s a new start, and I think you’ve probably seen the highlights, like Drake May throwing a pass to Jalen Reagor up the sideline. Paul would also tell you that Drake May is a pretty intriguing athlete. Every time he moves around, gets outside the pocket, or has to throw on the move, there’s some intrigue there.
So, look, I know Tom Brady, Randy Moss, and all those superstars aren’t there anymore. But hopefully, fans will start to see this new crop of players and get excited. Christian Gonzalez is coming back, Matthew Judon is back on the field, and Drake May looks like a potential third overall pick. I don’t know what Drake May will become, but I can certainly find excitement in watching him play football and develop on the practice field.
