Patriots finish signing rookie class
On Thursday, New England Patriots second-round pick Ja’Lynn Polk became the eighth and final draft pick to sign his rookie deal with the team.
As the Patriots broke for their summer break this week, they got one important piece of business checked off. As of Thursday, their entire rookie class is now officially under contract.
The final player to sign was second-round wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk, whose deal was announced by the team on Thursday. He was the eighth player to complete his deal.

Polk’s rookie contract will be a standard four-year deal. According to Patriots salary cap expert Miguel Benzan, the contract is worth up to $9.69 million over the four years, with $3.87 million guaranteed. Polk will carry a $1.7 million cap hit in 2024.
Per Benzan, this is the earliest the Patriots have finished signing their entire draft class since 2017 (June 7). It’s the second-earliest they’ve finished signing their class since rookie contracts became pre-structured in 2012.
Last year at Washington, Polk caught 69 passes for 1,159 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games as the Huskies reached the National Championship. Taken 37th overall by the Patriots he was the 10th receiver to go off the board in what was viewed as an extremely deep and talented class at the position.
Now with the Patriots, Polk is in a wide receiver room that doesn’t have a lot of certainty in regards to roles and playing time. If he can build on his solid start this spring with a strong training camp, he could end up playing a significant role for the Patriots as a rookie.
Mainly projecting as a ‘Z’ receiver, players he’ll be competing against more directly for playing time include Kendrick Bourne, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and K.J. Osborn for playing time. Polk has also been involved in special teams work this spring.
