Where Does Mahomes Rank on All-Time QB List?
Parts of conversation abbreviated for clarity.
Alex Barth: I know you guys just listed off some of the quarterback wins in terms of where Mahomes stands. He has won more than Peyton [Manning] now. He passed Peyton last night. That feels somewhat significant.
Zolak: That's a big one.
Bertrand: Right, so let me ask you this, Zo. Is Patrick Mahomes better than Peyton Manning?
Zolak: Yeah.
Bertrand: I don't know how you could say he isn't.
Zolak: It's a quick one.
Bertrand: It happened fast. Didn't it?
Zolak: I've got to think, yep. And it happened fast.
Bertrand: It happened real fast.
Alex Barth: I think it happened last night.
Zolak: I also think of the way Payton [Manning] fell off. And how he sort of managed the last one. And we knew he was hurt, so that kind of kind of doesn't count. So Patrick has done it with three Super Bowls and three MVPs. Did he pass [Troy] Aikman last night?
Bertrand: Yes.
Zolak: That's who he's passing right now, that two and three-tiered group.
Bertrand: I don't think he'll play until he's 45. So, he may not get to seven Super Bowls. But he might put together a career that will be hard to ignore, regardless of the number of Super Bowls.
So, I don't think this will get boiled down to just the number of Super Bowl wins.
Zolak: We all love that number because that's the scoreboard. I think he could realistically win five Super Bowls. Then we could truly have an honest discussion about who is the best of all time. Him or Brady? And Tom had to do a lot to extend his career.
Bertrand: Are you willing to say this. He's the third-best quarterback ever to play the game. He's in the top three. The conversation now is Brady, Mahomes, and Montana. That's it.
Zolak: Terry Bradshaw had a 4-0 record in the big game.
Bertrand: Those people still exist. But no one's looking at Terry Bradshaw as one of the greatest of all time.
Zolak: I know that.
Bertrand: It's down to three guys. It's Mahomes. It's Brady. It's Montana. Those are the three guys you're discussing. Who else is bringing another name into the conversation?
Alex Barth: I can't think of another one. And I think it's in the order you just said it right now.
Bertrand: Those are the guys that are in the convo, and Patrick Mahomes is still working his way up.
