Zolak: I could see Belichick going to Cowboys in the future
WHERE WILL BELICHICK COACH NEXT SEASON?
Bertrand: You never know when you can find a great coach. You can find him in a ski checkout line sometimes.
Zolak: Honestly, over the years, I felt like if Bill ever left here, that’s the one spot I think he would go—to the Dallas Cowboys.
I don’t give the Washington Commanders a chance to land him. I do understand the affinity with the Giants, though. You know, he loved that place.
But in reality, it will come down to where the money is. And what the team means to the sport of football. I could see Bill there [in Dallas]. I could, if things don’t end well here.
I’m not saying Bill would rather be in Dallas next year. I think Bill ultimately would love to be here and finish here. But if that doesn’t happen, Dallas is the one spot I could see him going to. They’ve got a good roster too.
The Giants are too problematic right now. They don’t really have a good quarterback, either. So, he would have the same issues in New York that he has here right now.
Cowboys have a great receiver in CeeDee Lamb. He’s got like 100 yards in ten straight games or something like that. You’ve got freaking home run skill players there.
Bertrand: Weather’s a little bit warmer there. You can go shirtless more often.
Zolak: They’ve got a great facility. Look at the dome. Come on!
Bertrand: Can make big money. Jerry will pay him that big money that he likes.
Belichick to Dallas? Belichick to Buffalo? People always like to bring this stuff up. I don’t know what interest level Buffalo would have in him, but still. They could be looking for another head coach soon. Who knows?

Patriots 2023 midseason report card: Offense
10 weeks into the 2023 NFL season, the New England Patriots’ bye week is finally here. That means it’s time for our annual check-in that is the midseason report card. As has been the case in the past, we’re not using the exact midway point but the buy week/extended off week.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that, with the team at 2-8, these will be some of the lowest grades given out in the now-four years of doing this exercise. They were 4-5 when we checked in in 2020, 5-4 in 2021, and then 5-4 again last year.

The grades include everything factoring into the position. That means players’ individual performances as well as coaching and usage.
With these grades, keep in mind the idea is grading based on the expectations compared to reality (ex. players/positions with higher expectations coming into the season are graded on a sharper curve). There’s also an emphasis put on more recent games, with football being a ‘what have you done for me lately’ game.
As always, we’ll start with the offense (defensive grades can be found here). Entering the bye week, the Patriots have the 31st-ranked offensive in the league, averaging 14.1 points per game. That’s down a full touchdown per game from where they finished last year, and is on pace to be their worse offensive ranking in franchise history (they ranked 28th offensively in 1990).
What does that look like in grade form? Here we go…
