Felger: Wouldn’t be shocked if Mac Jones is traded before end of month
On Monday’s Felger and Mazz program, Michael Felger theorizes that the Patriots could trade Mac Jones before the end of the month.
FULL CONVERSATION
Mazz:Ā We don’t know how Mac Jones would look if we actually put some talent around him. It’s the offensive line to me. I hate to keep coming back to this, Mike. It’s unconscionable what they’ve done with that offensive line. It destroys any chance to make some kind of honest evaluation. So, you can’t get a read on it.
I’m not telling you Jones has played well. He hasn’t. He also has almost no chance. Even Rex Ryan and Dan Orlovsky agreed on that. … No quarterback would succeed in this system because the line and talent around them is so freaking bad.
Felger:Ā That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mac Jones is traded this month.
Don’t rule that out. I don’t think Kraft would allow it to happen, but like, that’s the kind of thing they would do at one point in time. If they realize it’s not happening, then trade his ass.
Mazz:Ā Definitely!
Felger: The trade deadline is Oct. 31. So, just keep an eye on that.
His salary next year is $2.7 million. So he’s a backup, if nothing else. … To save your season, would you trade him straight up for Kirk Cousins right now?
Mazz:Ā Sure.
Felger: I mean, that might work for both teams, maybe Minnesota’s done with Kirk Cousins. They’re not going anywhere. They’re not going to pay him or extend him. And the Patriots could try to save their season. You could pull that trade off this week.
Except, Kirk Cousins makes $40 million, and the Krafts aren’t paying that. No chance. Talk about eating moneyāthe Vikings would have to gobble up most of that money for the Patriots to do that.
When people ask, “Who goes first?” I think Mac Jones should be benched this week.
Bailey Zappe and/or Will Grier should be playing this week. I would not fire Bill during the year.
