Perkins: Until they completed the mission I had my doubts
Kedrick Perkins called into the Felger and Mazz program on Monday to discuss some news around him and the 2024 Celtics victory parade. While on, Perk talked about his past criticisms of the Boston Celtics.
Felger: Perk you’re critical of a lot of teams and a lot of players. Do you hear more from Celtics fans and media about your commentary than other teams? Or is it just like every other team?
Kendrick Perkins: I do. I do, but here’s the thing, like I can’t be a homer. And the thing is, when it comes down to the Celtics is what I’ve always learned since I played there for 8 1/2 years, even when I was part of that team before we won the championship that lost 18 games in a row., I mean, we were getting booed out of the arena. We sucked. And from me being there, the history of the Celtics has always been “it’s no in between”. It’s either a championship or it’s a failed season. What are you doing to make strides to win the championship? And so over the past two years, am I wrong because I felt like the Celtics still had a window to win two championships and they dropped the ball in the finals against the Golden State Warriors? No one still could tell me to this day that the Celtics didn’t have the better basketball team. So, you know, did Golden State have more experience? Absolutely. OK. And last year when the Miami Heat beat them in the conference finals, did I not have a right to be pissed off? So until they completed the mission, which they did this year, I had my doubts until they showed me that they could actually do it. Now I’m proud of them for doing it, but was I wrong for that.
