Betts, Ramirez Hit First Homers As Red Sox Beat Marlins 7-3
Mookie Betts and Hanley Ramirez both hit their first home runs of the season as the Boston Red Sox outpaced the Miami Marlins by a 7-3 score on Monday at Marlins Park.
Betts smacked his first bomb of the season in the seventh inning off Marlins reliever Chris O’Grady. He’d gone 4-for-14 (.286) with just one extra-base hit in his first four games of the season against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Lefty Brian Johnson (1-0) earned his first win of the season in his first start, acting as one of the two fill-in starters for the injured Drew Pomeranz and Eduardo Rodriguez. He pitched six innings, allowing just one earned run on six hits and two walks and striking out five. Johnson needed just 82 pitches to get through the six frames.
Up Next: Chris Sale (0-0, 0.00 ERA) takes the mound for his second start of the season against the Marlins’ José Ureña (0-1, 11.25 ERA) on Tuesday evening.
