Is anything gained by putting Drake Maye in during a blowout?
Drake Maye made his NFL debut in Thursday’s nights game against the New York Jets. On Friday, Felger said he doesn’t think that there’s anything to be gained by the New England Patriots putting Drake Maye in the game during a blowout loss.
Felger: You know what I feel about that whole story? It doesn’t matter. I mean, that’s it. It doesn’t matter.
Mazz: That’s how I feel. I don’t think that’s the issue.
Felger: It’s like, alright play him. What’s it going to look like?
Mazz: The same.
Jim Murray: You’re going to get the kid killed.
Felger: And I’m not even worried about that. But I’m just like, I think would he have developed in a game like last night?
Jim Murray: No.
Mazz: No!
Felger: I think it’s really difficult to develop when you’re running for your life to that degree.
Mazz: All that was, was like a game of like Tag. You know what I mean? He’d be running all night just trying to get away from people…They couldn’t even run a play.
Felger: This could be really hard for him to develop with the team looking like it’s looking. And I’m not even talk about the injury thing. The injury thing is not my issue. You play football and there’s an injury risk no matter what you do. I’m not talking about him getting killed. I’m talking about, what’s really going to be gained if he goes out there? So if they’re that bad but he’s marginally better than Brissett, that’s not going to do anything for the team. I’m not sure exactly what it’s going to do.
