Patriots meet with top receiver at NFL Combine
Earlier in the week, New England Patriots de facto general manager Eliot Wolf told reporters the team plans on meeting with the top three quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft at this week’s NFL Combine. Some of those meetings have since taken place.
Those three quarterbacks make up most of the projections for the Patriots’ third overall pick, but not all of them. There’s been one other player – at a position other than quarterback – that has generated plenty of buzz.

That player is Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who is viewed by some as the top overall player in this class. Quarterback needs aside, Harrison Jr. would make a lot of sense for a Patriots team that has struggled to draft and develop at that position for more than a decade now.
The Patriots seem to think so too. According to Mark Daniels of MassLive, the Patriots met with Harrison at the Combine this week. They were likely one of his first meetings, with wide receivers not arriving in Indianapolis until Tuesday.

Harrison is as complete a wide receiver prospect as there has been in the draft in recent history. It’s not just that he can do any one thing at a high level, but how many things he does at a high level from route running to ability to his ability to make plays at the catch point.
Given his perceived draft standing, Harrison will not work out at the Combine this week. He will only take part in medical testing and meet with teams.
The question is, will the Patriots pass up on the positional value presented by the quarterback position to take a ‘safer’ prospect in Harrison? That’s the decision that faces Wolf and the Patriots – although The Athletic reported on Thursday morning that the Patriots “are heavily leaning in the direction of drafting a QB.”
Still, they certainly could (and should) take a wide receiver after that top pick. While Harrison is the face of this class at that position, it’s a very talented and deep group, so the Patriots should have their options.

2024 Patriots pre-draft meeting tracker
Throughout the pre-draft process, NFL teams meet with prospects sometimes on multiple occasions. These meets can occur at showcase games like the Senior Bowl and Shrine Bowl, the NFL Combine, can be organized officially (top-30 visits), or be arranged in a number of other ways.
While these meetings aren’t always a perfect indication of who a team will draft, they often provide a general guide of the kinds of players a team is considering drafting. Tracking meetings can also come to fruition later on when a draft class hits free agency.
Last year the Patriots only had an official pre-draft meeting with one of their draft picks (Christian Gonzalez) and signed another as a UDFA (Malik Cunningham). In 2022 they met with two draft picks (Jack Jones and Marcus Jones) and another UDFA (D’Eriq King). Make of that what you will – the more pessimistic fans can use meetings as a guide to players the Patriots won’t be drafting.
Who have the Patriots met with in 2024? Here’s a running list. Be sure to check back throughout the offseason as the list is updated.
This list doesn’t include the players who were at the Patriots’ local pro day. That group can be found here.
