Report: Red Sox acquire Eric Hosmer from Padres
The Red Sox will finally have a real first baseman at the position, as the team has pulled the trigger on a trade for San Diego’s Eric Hosmer, as first reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

A 32-year-old lefty, Hosmer will move to Boston in the midst of a season that’s included a .272 average with eight home runs and 40 RBIs through 90 games. It also comes after Hosmer, in his fifth season with the Padres, rejected a trade to Washington when the Padres pulled the trigger on a mega-move for Juan Soto and Josh Bell earlier in the day.
Prior to his time with the Padres, Hosmer, who was the third overall pick in the 2008 MLB Draft, spent seven seasons with Kansas City, and was part of the 2015 Royals team that won the World Series.
Hosmer is due $39 million over the next three seasons after 2022, but possesses a player option for all three. It’s also worth noting that the Padres are going to pay ‘a lot’ of Hosmer’s remaining salary, according to Bob Nightengale.

In addition to the championship ring, Hosmer’s career accolades include three 20-homer seasons, one All-Star appearance, four Gold Gloves between 2013 and 2017, and a Silver Slugger Award in 2017.
