Beetle: Drake Maye continues to make his coaches look stupid
Marc Bertrand began Monday’s show by questioning Jerod Mayo and the Patriots coaching staff after yet another strong performance from Drake Maye in the preseason finale against the Washington Commanders:
Beetle: Once again, Drake Maye, the kid gets in there with everybody watching and all the eyeballs on the Patriots and Drake Maye looks good and performs again. And for the second straight game, Drake Maye has made everybody who has not offered him ample opportunity this summer look stupid. He keeps making his coaching staff look stupid. This is not a reflection of them. This is a reflection on him getting better. It’s not a reflection on opportunity, it’s not a reflection on getting first team reps. It’s none of that. Drake Maye is showing you who he is. Question is, will the team take advantage of it? That’s what we now ask because this is now becoming a quarterback controversy after watching an entire. preseason, it’s pretty clear that the best quarterback on the roster is Drake Maye and not Jacoby Brissett.
Drake Maye should have started the game last night. It was a waste of time putting Jacoby Brissett in the game again. They now are in a very uncomfortable spot and I I talked about this pregame last night and I said if Drake Maye goes out and has another good game and we look at Drake Maye stringing together two good, if not great — when you consider he’s a rookie — performances. The coaching staff on this team is going to have to answer to their players at some point once they go out there, their offense struggles and Jacoby Brissett struggles and everybody is now seeing what Drake Maye is capable of.
