Scott Zolak: Robert Kraft reached out to the Commanders On Bill Belichick’s behalf
On Friday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Scott Zolak broke down how Robert Kraft reached out to the Washington Commanders on Bill Belichick’s behalf over the offseason.
I think Belichick and Kraft are “pretty good”
Marc Bertrand:
As crappy as it felt to have to kick Bill Belichick out the door and pretty much fire him. You know, they call it a separation, whatever they want. He was fired. You were getting fired, Bill. It was time. You can’t win four games in the NFL and not expect to be held accountable for it. That’s just what the league is, regardless of your resume. It’s never comfortable to get fired, and there’s probably some hard feelings there on both sides. There has to be. It’s just natural that happens. How does that look two or three years from now? For Brady it was five years. So, let’s even say that, five years from now. We’re only five months removed. How does this feel five years from now for Bill Belichick?
Scott Zolak:
A lot of people think there’s detachment between Robert and Bill. I know this tidbit for a fact, and it is 100% a fact. When Bill didn’t get the Atlanta job, Robert reached out to Washington to help facilitate Bill to get the interview with Washington to push him there on Bill’s behalf. So for people to think, Robert hoodwinked him to mess up the Atlanta one, it wasn’t Robert. It was the people in Atlanta. It was Terry Fontenot and company and all the underlings because Bill would’ve taken over. That’s the way in which Bill operates. I know Bill said he wouldn’t do that, but Bill has a lot of control once he gets going. But I think he and Robert are pretty good. Not great, pretty good.
Marc Bertrand:
Good enough, I guess. But in 5 years it should be better.
Scott Zolak:
His son works here. His other son came back. Amanda was here the other night at the the award ceremony. I talked to her. She’s coaching lacrosse at Holy Cross. Like his kids are coaches and Robert’s still paying Brian’s salary. There’s still something there. Steve came back two weeks ago. Now Bill is doing a lot of time in Washington with Steve to help get him up and going.
