Albert Breer: Patriots could have a “two prong approach” at OC
On Thursday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Albert Breer of SI and MMQB broke down how the Patriots could have a “two prong” approach at offensive coordinator.
Almost like a two pronged approach…
Marc Bertrand: Let’s start with the Patriots not having an offensive coordinator yet. Zo has been very impatient. He’s getting to a point where he’s noy happy. He’s upset that they haven’t acted more quickly to nail this thing down and it get it settled. Should we all feel that way?
Albert Breer: I think that part of the problem is there’s like a number of teams that are in the same boat. The Raiders are looking for an offensive coordinator. The Bears were, the Steelers are, the Saints are. So you know, you have like a few different guys that I think have interviewed in a lot of these places. Dan Pitcher was one that was sort of making those rounds and he winds up deciding to stay in Cincinnati and replace Brian Callahan. Zach Robinson is another one that I know has been a really hot name and rightfully so. Had Kellen Moore not been able to get out of Dallas last year, he probably would have been the Chargers offensive coordinator under Brandon Staley.
I think that’s part of the game all of these teams are engaged in right now is getting to know some of these younger guys who have built reputations for themselves, but maybe the higher ups don’t know as well. I actually think when we get to the end of this, it’s not impossible that we could have like, almost like a two pronged approach to the way the Patriots fill the job. Or maybe it’s like one of the young guys is the coordinator, and then you have somebody coming in like an Alex Van Pelt or somebody like that who’s got a lot of experience that can be the over the top guy. I think that they’re going to try to be thoughtful about the way they put that together.
Michael Holley: Yuck.
