Jones and Arcand: Would you trade for Kevin Durant?
Adam Jones and Christian Arcand filled in for Felger and Mazz on Friday and Jim Murray asked them if they’d like to see the Celtics trade for Kevin Durant. Per usual, Jones and Arcand disagreed on whether they’d trade for Durant or not.
Transcript:
Jim Murray: What’s the latest on the Kevin Durant rumblings? Are you. Where are you guys again? Refresh me. Are you pro this move? You are Jones, right? You would go for Durant, right?
Adam Jones: Yeah, I’d 100% go for Durant. I think it’s I think it’s silly, that’s another thing we actually argued about last night that people are drawing a line in the sand on Marcus Smart.
Jim Murray: Oh, that’s ridiculous.
Christian Arcand: I’m one of those people.
Adam Jones: Like I so like you do Jaylen, Derrick White and a bunch of picks for Durant, right?
Christian Arcand: Yes. If I knew Jaylen Brown wasn’t coming back. I don’t want to do the trade just to do it.
Adam Jones: Fine, fine. You wouldn’t do Jaylen, Marcus Smart, and a bunch of picks for Kevin Durant.
Christian Arcand: No. I think that Brooklyn should like that.
Adam Jones: But that’s just crazy. That’s just crazy.
Christian Arcand: I think Marcus Smart has more value than just being a throw into a trade. I think there’s.
Adam Jones: No but you but you’re willing and.
Christian Arcand: Also Brooklyn shouldn’t be asking for more is a pretty good deal I guess.
Adam Jones: But whatever. But Brooklyn should ask for more from the Celtics than any other team. They’ve already been ripped off by them before. The optics of trading them in their own division to this team again are so bad they need more. So, you’d be willing to lose out on potentially adding Kevin Durant over Marcus Smart.
Christian Arcand: Yeah, I would. Yeah, I’d stand my ground if I was the Celtics. I’d stand my ground here. Well, the pressure is not a game. It’s on Brooklyn.
Adam Jones: Good then let him go to Miami over Marcus Smart. Let him go to Miami.
Christian Arcand: We’re going to. trade what for Miami together?
I don’t know. Whatever. I think if they’re not trading with you, he’s going somewhere else. So good. So you lost out on Kevin Durant now? Now on another team title.
Christian Arcand: Stuck with Jaylen Brown. How sad that is.
Adam Jones: Well, no, but you’re trading Jaylen Brown.
Christian Arcand: I’d trade Jaylen Brown if I knew he wasn’t staying. Okay, the only way. Right. So that’s more. And even if I didn’t even if I thought he was leaving, you still get two pretty good years out of Jaylen. Brown.
Adam Jones: Okay. But you said you trade him if you knew he was leaving. You’re trading with Derrick White.
Christian Arcand: Yeah.
Adam Jones: Okay. So you would trade Jaylen Brown?
Christian Arcand: Oh, sure. Yeah.
Adam Jones: Okay.
Christian Arcand: So if you knew you were going to keep it because you’re not going to get a better return than Kevin Durant. But I also don’t think you have to trade him. I don’t think it’s necessary. I don’t think it’s something you have to do. The Nets have to trade Durant. He requested a trade. Jaylen Brown hasn’t requested anything.
Adam Jones: There’s a downside to not trading for him. And it’s not just, you know, not upgrading your team, it’s that he’s going to go somewhere else. And that team might become a title favorite over you. You might run into him in the NBA finals. That’s another reason to trade for Durant now, and I definitely would not lose out on Kevin Durant over Marcus Smart.
