The Red Sox are moving Andrew Cashner to the bullpen

Alex Cora has seen enough of Andrew Cashner as a starter, as the second-year Sox manager has decided to move the 32-year-old righty to the bullpen effective immediately.
Acquired from the Orioles on July 13, Cashner has been walloped by batters since the move from Baltimore to Boston, with four losses, an 8.01 ERA, and 29 runs allowed in just 30.1 innings over six starts. Opponents are hitting an absurd .339 against Cashner since No. 48 arrived in Boston, too. He’s been unplayably bad.
But Cashner reinvented that term in Sunday’s eventual loss to the Anglels, as he surrendered three runs on three hits and five (five!) walks in just 1.2 innings of work, forcing Cora to go to his bullpen in just the second inning of play.

Cashner’s removal from the Boston rotation doesn’t come with a direct replacement, as Cora has not decided on Wednesday’s starter yet. But right-handed starter Rick Porcello, who is going through some struggles comparable to Cashner’s of late, will remain in the rotation, according to Cora.
The Red Sox, who have dropped 11 of their last 14 games overall, will begin a three-game series with the Indians on Monday night.
