Are the Boston Celtics going to shoot more three’s in 2024-25?
The Boston Celtics will kick off their 2024 NBA Title defense next week when they host the New York Knicks at the TD Garden. Last season they led the league in three point attempts per game. As the start of the new season nears, it seems they may be trying to shoot even more three’s.
Felger: Jaylen Brown on one of those hot chicken podcasts talking about Joe Mazzulla and the “Killer Whale” offense, which I think they mean to mean that we’re just going to mercilessly pick on the bad defensive players on the other side, you know what you see everyone does in the playoffs…but they’re going to show no mercy this year like a pack of orca killer whales. They’re going to hunt bad defensive matchups and just take advantage of it, which I am all for. Like, I think that’s good basketball. That’s smart. That’s competitive. I’m into it. Joe Murray there was sort of conflating that with the increased 3 pointers, which watch out, I think they’re going to go even more into the three-point thing this year. Last year they led the NBA with 42 1/2 three-point attempts per game. 42 ½. Again, most in the league. This preseason here are their three-point attempts per game: 61, 47, 47, 53, 55.
Jim Murray: What’s that average out to?
Felger: 52 1/2.
Mazz: An increase of almost 25%.
Jim Murray: They want to get to like 60 a game?
Felger: Last year they led the league with 42 ½ and I think someone over there said not enough.
