Wide receiver John Jiles re-signed to Patriots practice squad
The New England Patriots are bringing back wide receiver John Jiles on the practice squad after releasing him two weeks ago.
On Tuesday the New England Patriots released wide receiver Matt Landers, leaving no receivers left on the team’s practice squad. One day later, the team filled his spot with another receiver.
Wednesday, the team announced the re-signing of wide receiver John Jiles to the practice squad. Jiles, 24, was previously signed to the Patriots’ practice squad for a week earlier this season, but released at the start of this month.
Prior to signing with the Patriots Giles was a member of the New York Giants, who signed him as a UDFA this past spring. In three preseason games he caught two passes on seven targets for 41 yards. He was released as part of final roster cuts.
Jiles played collegiately at Division-II West Florida. Last fall, he set a school record with 1,225 receiving yards, catching 66 passes including 16 touchdowns.
Now, Jiles becomes the lone wide receiver on the Patriots’ practice squad. The team does have seven wide receivers on the active roster, following the activation of Kendrick Bourne last week.
After re-signing Jiles the Patriots now have 15 players on their practice squad, leaving one spot open. They also currently have a spot on their active roster.
