Patriots defensive leader lands latest contract extension
Safety Jabrill Peppers is the latest player to get a contract extension from the New England Patriots.
In the early days of Patriots training camp, there’s been a lot of talk about contract extensions for key members of the defense at the first and second level – defensive tackle Davon Godchaux and linebacker Matthew Judon. Prior to Friday’s practice the Patriots got an extension done, but it wasn’t with either of those players. Instead, it’s one of their top players in the secondary – safety Jabrill Peppers.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Patriots and Peppers are “finalizing” a three-year extension. The new contract is worth a base value of $24 million, and up to $30 million.

Speaking to the media before Friday’s practice, head coach Jerod Mayo confirmed the deal. “I am very happy for Peppers and for his family and also for our team and organization,” Mayo said. “He really embodies everything that we want on the field. He’s very selfless, he’s out there flying around all the time, and it’s good to get that deal done.”
This new contract comes as Peppers, 29, enters the final year of a two-year extension he signed with the Patriots last spring. He initially signed with the Patriots as a free agent in 2022 and has been an impact player for the team since. In 32 games (20 starts) he’s recorded 138 tackles while breaking up eight passes and forcing four turnovers.
The Patriots now have their safety duo – one of the best in the league – locked up long-term. Kyle Dugger signed a four-year extension in the spring.
As Judon and Godchaux continue to wait for their deals, Peppers joins a long list of Patriots that have gotten new contracts this offseason. That group includes running back Rhamondre Stevenson, offensive lineman Mike Onwenu, and defensive tackle Christian Barmore.
