Bertrand: The Patriots Defense is Overrated
On Wednesday’s edition of Zolak and Bertrand, Marc Bertrand makes the case that the Patriots defense is overhyped and made out to be more then what the actual talent is on the roster.
“I Don’t Get It….“
Bertrand: I think their defense is overrated. I think that’s a big problem that people here locally have. Listen, the defense was the one bright spot. It was the one thing that kept the Patriots in games. I think that’s what’s led to people thinking that all of a sudden, this is an all time great defense.
Zolak: I don’t think they’re great at linebacker.
Bertrand: I don’t get it.
Zolak: I don’t think they can run well at linebacker. Like I’m with you on that. But, like there’s a good down-guys and they have some good cover-guys. Gonzalez should be great.
Bertrand: I agree with that.
Zolak: I think and maybe I’m overshooting expectations of what I expect him to be as a player. But through four games a year ago and I know that’s a very short snippet. That dude look like he belonged. I watched him a lot in preseason. I watch him his first four games and he was there. I know what Jonathan Jones can do. I know what Dugger can do. You know what Peppers can do. I know what some of these guys can do. They’re not great in the middle. They’re not that fast. But if they’re able to get pressure and are able to cover, you can do some things and it’s on your corners and Barmore and company. Judon’s got to be big. They got to shoot Judon out of a freaking cannon. Hopefully Godchaux gets his money and is ready to go. You know, we got to worry about that now, right?
Bertrand: I don’t have to worry about it at all. The team doesn’t either, show up and play or don’t. I wouldn’t be looking to worry about that and spend on him . No, it’s not going to impact them enough to really be worried about any of it. I think their defense is going to face a more difficult task in 2024 than they did in ’23. I know they had those great wins over the Mitch Trubisky and Russell Wilson. They did have the one over Josh Allen. Give him that. Give up like 25 points in that game. But whatever.
