Jaylen Brown responds to Marcus Smart’s Monday comments
Following Marcus Smart’s ‘critiques’ of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and the Celtics offense on Monday, Brown was removed from the team’s postgame media schedule. It was about 48 hours later that Brown was finally asked his say on the matter, after Wednesday’s win over the Orlando Magic.
“Obviously in the midst of trying to win games, it’s something that we probably didn’t need. But we all communicate & talk to each other, so we’re all trying to find ways to win and I’m open to any and everything when guys bring it to me,” Brown said when asked about Smart’s comments.
Brown’s response also comes after the team held what ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski described as a ‘players-only meeting‘ on Tuesday. Head coach Ime Udoka later characterized it as an already-planned team dinner, with coaches showing up half an hour after the players.
“Team meeting – [just an] opportunity to talk as a group get some communication going and move forward,” Brown said. “At the end of the day we’ve been playing basketball together for a long time – all of us, especially our core group. So when it comes down to it, it’s all about trying to find ways to win. And that’s what most of the conversation was about.”
As tumultuous as the last few days were for the Celtics, they were able to kick a three-game losing streak Wednesday night. They’ll look to bring that momentum to the rest of their road strip starting Thursday night against the Miami Heat.
