Celtics reportedly make yet another addition to their roster
Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens joked that his team’s work in defense of their NBA title would begin one day after the parade, if not sooner.
It turns out that not even September can come with a cooldown, either, as the Celtics made yet another move, with Jordan Schakel added to Boston’s roster for next month’s training camp. Schakel’s deal was first reported by CLNS Media’s Bobby Manning.
A 6-foot-6 shooter, Schakel has made six NBA appearances in his career (all with the Wizards), with makes on two of his 13 tries (2-for-7 from three-point range), along with eight rebounds and two steals in just over 36 minutes of total time on the court.
Prior to his NBA run, the 26-year-old Schakel was a standout at San Diego State University, and actually left the program with the third-most makes from beyond the arc in school history (225).
Schakel also isn’t completely foreign to the C’s organization, as he spent some with time with G-League Maine a year ago, with 13.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game over 13 games with the Celtics before suffering what was a season-ending knee injury. That 13-game run in Maine also saw Schakel shoot 44 percent and 41.1 percent from three-point range.
Similar to the deal the Celtics signed Lonnie Walker IV to last month, Schakel’s deal with the Celtics will be an Exhibit 10 contract. Schakel’s signing also brings Boston up to 21 training camp contracts, which is the maximum allowed.
