Celtics reportedly have dates for at least four games on their 2024-25 schedule
For the Celtics, the on-floor portion of Boston’s 16-year mission for Banner 18 was officially completed with a five-game NBA Finals series win over the Mavericks this past June.
And now the Celtics have the official raising of that banner to the TD Garden rafters marked on their calendar, with the Green set to kick their season off with an Oct. 22 head-to-head against the Knicks.
Word of the C’s Opening Night festivities came courtesy of The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
This will be the first banner-raising night for the Celtics since Oct. 2008 (when they raised their championship banner against LeBron James and the Cavaliers), and it will be the first banner-raising night in general at TD Garden since the Bruins raised their 2011 Stanley Cup banner in Oct. 2011.
This will also mark the second straight year that the Celtics are beginning their regular season with a showdown against the Knicks, as last year’s C’s squad opened the year at Madison Square Garden.
Beyond the celebration of last year’s accomplishment, the Celtics will also play on Christmas Day. That holiday head-to-head will come at TD Garden, and come against the 76ers.
This will mark the ninth straight season with a Christmas Day contest on the docket for the Celtics.
And if you’re looking for a rematch of last year’s NBA Finals showdown, it’s worth noting that the Mavericks will play host to the Celtics on Jan. 25 in Dallas, while the Mavs will return to Boston for a showdown with the Celtics on Feb. 6.
The Celtics, who are essentially bringing back the same cast from a year ago, are looking to become the league’s first repeat champion since the Warriors won back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018.
