Patriots take Colorado OL William Sherman with 197th pick in 2021 NFL Draft
With the 197th overall and final pick in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Patriots added to their offensive line depth, selecting Colorado’s William Sherman. The team has now taken at least one offensive lineman in seven straight drafts, dating back to 2014.
Sherman fits the mold of a typical Patriots Day 3 lineman. He brings positional versatility with the uncoachable traits already in place. As they’ve with so many linemen in the past, the Patriots coaching staff will now look to round out his game for the NFL level.
After blocking for Kyler Murray and winning a Texas state championship in high school, Sherman went on to be a three year starter at Colorado. He played right tackle for two seasons, before moving to the left side as a junior in 2020.
That experience on each side will do him well in a system in New England that likes to move linemen around. There’s also some belief he could fill in at guard in a pinch. At 6-foot-3, 304 pounds, size shouldn’t be an issue at either spot.
The Patriots have one pick remaining in the 2021 NFL Draft. They’re on the board in the seventh round with the 242nd overall pick.
