Zolak & Bertrand: The potential messaging problem with the Patriots
On Friday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, the crew touched on the potential messaging problem with the Patriots and Jerod Mayo.
Could Mayo’s own players call him a fraud?
Marc Bertrand:
Do you know what I’m fearful of for Jerod Mayo? Him being called a fraud by his own players. We talked about it on TV last night. I think you start becoming this guy who’s a strict sort of enforcer and you start benching guys and you’re trying to like to make a scene. I think it’s going to fall flat. I think they’ll look at him and be like, yeah ok, it’s fraudulent. It’s not what you want to do. It’s not what’s in the best interest of us trying to win a game. It’s you’re just trying to make a point or trying to look like a tough coach. I think that’s a fine line you got to sort of walk as a head coach. So, I would not be so eager to shake things up and make dramatic change. I think there’s an obvious one that you and I have talked about and that is Ja’Lynn Polk’s snap count is going to go way down in this game. And I don’t think that’s a big deal. He’s a rookie receiver who, despite his thought that he has the best hands in the league, hasn’t really accomplished much.
Phil Perry:
You want to know where the Patriots receiving corps is right now? The Texans were like double and triple teaming Ja’Lynn Polk at times during that game.
Marc Bertrand:
What the hell was with that?
Phil Perry:
It’s because they didn’t fear anybody else beating them down the field.
